Start with the milk path, not the drink count
Two machines can both offer one-touch cappuccino while moving milk through very different parts. Identify where milk is stored, how it reaches the cup, which components can be refrigerated and what must be rinsed after every use. That physical path is more useful than a large recipe number.
A manual steam wand keeps milk in the jug
The owner fills a separate jug, introduces steam and controls the texture. Milk should not travel inside a removable carafe or tube, but the wand still needs an immediate wipe and purge. This route asks for practice and active pouring; it can suit buyers who want direct control and a simpler milk path.
An in-cup wand automates frothing without a carafe
Some bean-to-cup machines lower a fixed or removable wand into milk placed in the cup. This avoids storing a dedicated milk container but still leaves milk-contact parts to rinse and clean. Confirm whether the wand is removable, dishwasher-suitable and compatible with the cup heights you use.
A detachable automatic carafe stores and dispenses milk
Systems such as LatteGo and LatteCrema attach a container to the machine and deliver milk into the cup. The carafe may move to the refrigerator between drinks, subject to the manual's storage guidance. Convenience depends on how many pieces detach, which are dishwasher-suitable and how quickly residue is cleaned.
An external tube draws from another container
Machines such as the JURA E8 use a milk tube connected to a container or directly to a suitable vessel. That can avoid a front-mounted carafe, but the tube and milk system still require their specified rinse and cleaning routine. A separate cooler or container may be optional rather than included.
Hot and cool carafes solve different recipe jobs
Some machines use more than one carafe or milk path for hot foam and cool or cold recipes. Check whether both parts are supplied with the exact model, where they fit in the refrigerator and whether changing between them adds handling. A cold-labelled recipe does not establish the final drink temperature or taste.
Automatic rinse is a step, not the whole cleaning claim
A machine may flush the milk path after a drink or at shutdown. That can reduce residue in part of the system, but it does not automatically replace dismantling, detergent cycles or wiping exposed components. Follow the exact manual intervals and treat broad self-cleaning language cautiously.
Milk care and brew-unit care are separate
A clean carafe does not mean the brewing system is clean. Bean-to-cup machines can also need grounds-container emptying, drip-tray cleaning, brew-group care, water-filter changes and descaling. Some brew groups are removable while others use specified cleaning programmes; confirm the exact model rather than generalising from the brand.
Choose around the most repetitive drink
A household making several milk drinks together may value a larger detachable carafe. One occasional cappuccino may make a wand or in-cup system acceptable. Buyers switching between dairy and plant drinks should consider cross-contact, extra containers and the cleaning needed between liquids.

Before checkout, open the exact model manual and find the milk-cleaning sequence, detergent requirements, dishwasher guidance and replacement-part route.
