Sage Bambino Plus

A narrow 54mm portafilter machine combining three-second heating with automatic or manual milk texturing.

Why it qualifiesA narrow manual-espresso route whose Auto MilQ controls offer three milk temperatures and three textures; a separate grinder remains necessary.
Recorded from£399.95
Known setup£559.90
Width19.4 cm
Depth36.2 cm
Trade-offThe £399.95 machine is not the full setup: pairing it with the recorded £159.95 Encore ESP makes the practical starting price about £560 before scales or a knock box. Every drink still requires dosing, distribution, tamping, locking the portafilter and knocking out the puck. Automatic milk still means wiping the wand after every use, and after 200 extractions the machine requires a tablet-clean cycle before normal use resumes. Filters replaced roughly quarterly model at about £61 a year at the recorded direct price, excluding tablets and descaler. Independent espresso, milk, noise and durability tests are pending.

Ninja Luxe Café Premier

A guided portafilter machine combining espresso, filter-style coffee, rapid cold brew, built-in grinding and hands-free milk.

Why it qualifiesA guided portafilter route with built-in grinding, weighing and hands-free milk, while puck preparation still remains manual.
Recorded from£449.99
Width33.6 cm
Depth34.4 cm
Trade-offDespite Ninja calling it bean-to-cup, it is not one-touch: you grind into a portafilter, tamp with a separate tool, move and lock the portafilter, empty the puck and wipe the steam wand. Barista Assist recommends settings and adjusts brewing, but it cannot correct stale beans or remove dialling-in entirely. Ninja's page conflicts with itself on grinder count (19 versus 25), dimensions and weight, so measure for at least the documented 33.6 × 34.4 × 37.2cm working body and allow access around its tanks and hopper. Cleaning includes tablets, filters and a roughly 90-minute descale. Independent espresso, filter, cold-brew, milk, noise and reliability tests are pending.

De'Longhi La Specialista Touch

A guided portafilter espresso machine with an integrated grinder, 3.5-inch touchscreen, automatic milk texturing and cold brew.

Why it qualifiesA touchscreen-guided portafilter machine with an integrated grinder and automatic LatteArt milk settings.
Recorded from£499.99
Width31.9 cm sales page · manual says 32.3cm
Depth36.7 cm sales page · manual says 46cm
Trade-offThis is not one-touch bean-to-cup: you grind into a portafilter, tamp, move it to the group, brew, empty the puck and wipe the milk wand after every use. Published data also conflict: the manual says a 180g hopper and 46cm depth, while Currys says 250g and De’Longhi's sales specification says 36.7cm depth. Measure for the manual's larger footprint and treat nine-versus-ten recipe wording as marketing variation, not an extra drink. Independent taste, milk, noise and durability tests are pending.

Bean-to-cup · record 93% complete

De'Longhi Rivelia LatteCrema

A compact automatic-milk bean-to-cup machine with sixteen drinks and two interchangeable 250g bean hoppers.

Why it qualifiesA compact one-touch route whose recorded menu explicitly includes flat white, with automatic milk-carafe cleaning obligations.
Recorded from£599
Width24.5 cm
Depth43 cm
Trade-offDo not mistake this .55 automatic-milk model for the cheaper .35 manual-frother Rivelia: the interface, milk hardware and drink count differ. At 24.5cm it is fairly narrow, but the 43cm depth and access to its 1.4L tank still need checking. Bean switching is guided rather than instant because beans below the removable hopper must be brewed or ground away. Run the carafe CLEAN rinse after milk use, dismantle it regularly, hand-rinse the removable infuser monthly and budget for optional water filters and descaler. The optional LatteCrema Cool kit is a separate purchase. Independent taste, temperature, noise, energy and reliability tests are pending, so no CoffeeScore is published.

Philips Series 5500 LatteGo

A one-touch bean-to-cup machine with 20 hot and iced recipes and a two-part milk system.

Why it qualifiesA low-assembly automatic-milk route with a broad twenty-drink menu and four user profiles.
Recorded from£649.99
Width24.6 cm
Depth43.3 cm
Trade-offIt occupies substantial counter depth, costs far more than entry bean-to-cup models, and independent noise, drink-quality and long-term cleaning tests are pending.

Sage Barista Touch Impress with Cold Extraction

A premium guided portafilter machine with assisted tamping, automatic milk and cold coffee presets.

Why it qualifiesA premium guided route with assisted tamping and configurable automatic milk, while remaining a hands-on portafilter workflow.
Recorded from£999.95
Width36 cm
Depth34 cm
Trade-offIt remains a large, expensive portafilter machine rather than a true one-touch bean-to-cup route; independent drink quality, noise, cleaning effort and reliability testing are pending.

Common questions

Before you use this shortlist

How were the products in “Coffee machines for flat whites at home” selected?

Every candidate must meet the published rules: A current UK machine record that combines espresso with automatic or assisted milk texturing; A fine-milk or flat-white-capable workflow documented in the record; No untested taste or milk-quality score used for inclusion. Affiliate availability is not an inclusion rule.

Is the first product the best one?

No. This is a transparent database shortlist, not a tested quality ranking. The declared ordering rule is: Lower known starting cost first, then lower workflow effort. This is not a drink-quality ranking.

Are the prices live?

Prices are dated UK observations rather than a guaranteed checkout quote. This shortlist was reviewed on 2026-07-24; delivery, stock, colour and promotions can change.

Does Home Coffee Index independently test every machine?

Not yet. Independent CoffeeScore results are published only after comparable testing. Manufacturer dimensions and features remain labelled as claims unless independently verified.
